Morning Sickness Vrs. Labour

I have come to a conclusion that may offend some of you mamas out there. I believe that Morning Sickness is way harder than giving birth – drug free- to an 8lb baby. And I know what I am talking about given my two beautiful children that already take presence in my home.

First off, when you are in Labour you have the ability to hang out ALL day with your husband, and he is completely available to you. To give you water, to rub your back, to pray, to encourage, to make you laugh. Any additional children are left at home with a loving caregiver. Not to mention that the facility you labor in is clean, sterile, and comes with one or more nurses who are at call with just a push of a button. Admist all of the pain, and sweat you know that it is going to end soon, hours is all you have to master before you are back to your “almost ” normal self. Hospitals by the way have available DRUGS, powerful ones to take away all the pain, that are pushed on you, and administered with one word if you want it. The biggest plus is that at the end you have a little wee baby to hold in your arms. Weeks, days, even hours, afterwards you begin to forget the pain associated with childbirth, and surprise yourself with your pondering, ” Hmm, I could do this again!”

Now let’s move on to morning sickness. I do recongize that I have never had what people call normal “MS”. And if it is Normal. I would venture to say that there is nothing normal about vomiting up everything that is suppose to nursish your body. And I mean everything – cereal, sandwhiches, water, apples, vegetables, mac and cheese, rice…the list goes on. Food isn’t appetizing- and that is a big problem since you are hungry, very hungry. You walk into the kitchen and gag. You walk into your bedroom, and gag – because all of a sudden you can’t stand the smell of your laundered clothes. You take a whiff of your sweet children, and gag. You step outside into the fresh air and gag- return back inside and gag. You begin to ALWAYS know where the nearest bathroom is, and NEVER go anywhere without husband. You seek help and are told that this is NORMAL. “When does it end?’ you desperately ask. ” It is different for every woman, sometimes at week 12, or 14, or 27 or not at all!” is the cold and standard reply.

Drugs? Yes, but only in extreme cases. What the heck is extreme? And if you are offered the miracle drug, it comes with a slew of other side effects ( worth it in my opinion!). And did I mention that the little pill is expensive, so expensive that you may not be able to afford it? Even with your insurance help. If your insurance agrees that it is worth paying for! But an epidural – that is another subject!

No end in sight. Your house is a mess, your husband has to go to work to pay for bills, you have two sweet babies who need caring for at home ( where is my nurse’s button?) , showering is a huge chore, no cafeteria to cook your meals…and when it FINALLY begins to subside- you are left feeling discouraged from EVER having another child. At least for a couple of years. And unlike childbirth you never really forget the feeling of nausea, feeling weak and exhausted, the taste of vomit in your mouth….

I’m just saying!

What is your opinion?

lol – Well, I’m not quite sure?! I’ve been in labor, and with Sofi it was intense almost from the start. Then ended up with two C-sections. The recovery after that wasn’t too fun. I felt a bit like a turtle on it’s back since I no longer had stomach muscles. And I had to ban my husband from being funny, because it hurt to laugh for several weeks after. :) But I can say that my body doesn’t handle pregnancy well at all, which has stopped us at two. So you might have something there! :)
